Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

1990

Gary Oldman, Tim Roth, Richard Dreyfuss

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is the hilarious screen adaptation of the Tom Stoppard play about  the most under developed characters in Hamlet. They know one of them is Rosencrantz and one is Guildenstern but can't quite figure out who is who. They know they were woken by a messenger in the morning and were sent for by the King of Denmark because Hamlet is going a bit crazy but that is about it........

as they go, somewhat unintentionally, through the story of Hamlet, Rosencrantz (or is it Guildenstern) learns a bit about how the world works but never quite manages to do the right thing at the right time....Guildenstern (or is it Rosencrantz) gets frustrated with his friends lack of ability to do or say anything original and there is a weird bunch of travelling actors who never quite let on the extent of what they know.

It is witty...it is comical and Oldman and Roth are a fantastic pair....

Plus...it has a very interesting scene in a bath :P
