Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

(2003)
Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, Jack Davenport, Jonathan Price

I havn't watched this film in years, so upon returning back to the bonny Kingdom of Fife for Christmas, I took up the chance while at a friends house last night. Not the easiest thing to do with two young children in tow (not mine i might add) but never the less I persevered. Johnny Depp is just wonderful as Jack Sparrow and i truely do believe this role was completely written for him and could not be played by anyone else. (he does bear a very striking resemblance to Drexel Spivey in True Romance, though admittedly does not have a screwed up eye and likes to take advantage of women.....oh wait ). The storyline, while not complex, is quite in depth and I guess is trying to teach children not to steal other peoples belongings or you will turn into a skeleton in the moonlight.............actually, that would be pretty cool. The mutinous crew of The Black Pearl, led by the fearsome, but strangely human, Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) are searching the high seas for the last piece of the treasure of Cortez which they foolishly stole, even though a terrible curse would be bestowed upon them. Sparrow, we learn, used to be the Black Pearl's captain, until Barbossa led a mutiny and left him to die on an island filled with rum and a single shot pistol. He is now on a mission to get his ship back...unfortunatly now i have to bring in the worst thing about this film.......the love story.  I might just rush this bit......Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) is the irksome daughter of a governer who has a bit of a thing for pirates and when she comes across a young pirate boy named Will Turner as a young girl, steals his pirate medallion for her own. Will Turner is the son of Bootstrap Bill Turner (a former crew member who now resides with Davy Jones) who the crew of the Black Pearl need the blood of to help lift their curse. After a case of mistaken identity, Elizabeth gets kidnapped and Will and Sparrow must rescue her....Norrington also comes along for the ride(he is an officer in the governers army and has proposed to Elizabeth) but since he has proposed to a young woman he has known since she was a little girl, he is a little bit pervy really. Battles ensue and I think the good guys win ( hmm  maybe this is complex) and Will gets his girl.......however, im more interested in what happens to Jack Sparrow, who, after escaping a hanging, gets rescued by the  Black Pearl............BRING ME THAT HORIZON!!!!!!!

7/10 (only because Keira Knightly grates on me all the way through - if i was Sparrow, i would have shot her on that island. I mean she burnt all the food, the shade and the rum......"why is the rum gone
